It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

I now live in Ohio and I find myself on the land of some of my families ancestors (I myself am of European ancestory but my step-father is Indiginous and so are my siblings. I grew up with his family as my own but I do not claim myself as Indiginous). I am deep in conversation with my family and we are learning together the history of this land and the Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo) and Bodwéwadmi (Potawatomi).

I lived in Colorado for only a few months before moving to Ohio but I thank the Indigenous peoples Tséstho’e (Cheyenne), Očhéthi Šakówiŋ hinono’eino’ biito’owu’ (Arapaho), Núu-agha-tʉvʉ-pʉ̱ (Ute), and the Ndé Kónitsąąíí Gokíyaa (Lipan Apache), whose land I occupied for those few months.

I will update my Land Acknowledgment and Call to Learn More once I am better informed. I will leave the Ramaytush Ohlone acknowledgment here, for I occupied their land for five years and still want to honor that.

I want to acknowledge that I create art, live my life on, and am inspired by the unceded ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone (pronounced Rah-my-toosh O-lone-ee) peoples, who are the original stewards and inhabitants of the San Francisco Peninsula.

I wish to pay my respects to the Ancestors, Elders, and Relatives of the Ramaytush Ohlone Community and to affirm their sovereign rights as First Peoples.

I honor the Ramaytush Ohlone for their enduring commitment to steward Mother Earth, and I make my commitment to connect with nature and mitigate my harm by honoring the Ramaytush Ohlone values and by embracing and learning from Indigenous traditional ecological knowledge in how I care for the lands, waters, and all its people.

Learn more about the Ramaytush Ohlone here.
